First of all, thank you to everyone who stopped by to visit me at the Salem Holiday Market this year. It was great to see some of my customers from the Saturday Market and to have friends and family visit too. It was a great show even though I got snowed out for Sunday~
This entry is about getting organized. I spent several months getting ready for this event, especially working full-time and having the greatest family in the world to spend time with too. To start out I like to take out all of my inventory to see what I have and make a list of what else I want to have. Sometimes I'll instantly get online and order more supplies to complete designs I want to have done. I'll also look through my supplies and set out designs to do later. Now that I have everything out, I organize them by my common themes to create some order to my displays. This also helps me figure out if I'm lacking in an area or short on lockets etc.
Now that my current inventory is categorized, it's time to make sure everything has a price tag and proper packaging. So at this point it's very easy to know if you have enough displays to show your designs. I also like to roughly guesstimate how much money I can make at a show and I set a secret goal, very attainable which helps me to feel success and achievement when it's over. Once all the designs are done, priced and ready to be displayed they can be packed or in line to be safely packed.
I will be sure to blog more about organizing things for a show very soon. Stay tuned, and be sure to click on my google ads for helpful resources and tips. |

Last night I rented the movie "Then She Found Me" based on a novel by Elinor Lipman. During the opening credits I noticed her name and remembered that she had purchased jewelry from me a few times. I feel so honored to have a famous author purchase my designs. And now after seeing the movie I have to read her book. I'm sure it's even better than the movie and the movie was really good. Anyway my husband made a big deal about it and it made me feel so good so I had to blog.
It's such a small world and we're all so connected. It's a good reminder to honor others better than yourself and to always show respect and care to our fellow man. This life is so good, hard at times, amazing at others, and is such a gift to not take for granted.

It's been quite a while since my last blog but I've been busy. I've been showing and selling my designs at our local Salem Saturday Market. It's been great fun and I've met a lot of nice people who encourage me without knowing it. But back to the topic of this blog. Lately I've been mixing antiqued brass with antiqued silver etc. I love the modern look, it's so ecletic and unique. People enjoy it also. I am able to also add a bright locket with the antiqued metal or a different color of wire. So when you're setting up your designs, step back and think about how to create you own spin on the design. Some people paint the brass and then steel wool some of it off for a chabby chic look. The possibilities are endless so create away.
Good luck! |

Hi everyone,
Recently someone asked me if I could send them tutorials for making jewelry. I don't have time to create my own tutorials for you but there are several online for free. It's so important to learn good techniques early on and then you get better with practice.
Here's a wonderful Web page with some free tutorials and others for sale at reasonable prices. I have personally purchased 2 of her tutorials over the years and they are well done with photos. Check it out: http://www.enioken.com/
I found this site from reading a blog entry of one of my favorite jewelry designers whose work I adore. Her style is ornate and beautiful: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5109922 I don't have the patience, time, or money to create what she creates but I love to look at her artistic creations. Everyone has their own unique style and hers is truely worth every penny. |

One of the many definitions for the word vintage is: A group or collection of people or things sharing certain characteristics.
This is true, but when it comes to beads and findings, I was informed that vintage is considered 30 years and older according to bead and finding dealers. However, my good friend was told the magic number is 20 years. Either way, my point is that you should be careful when buying "vintage" supplies and jewelry. The worst scenario would be to sell an item with "vintage" parts and label them as such when it's not, and the buyer becomes aware and upset. I'm sure some people call items vintage when they're really vintage-like or inspired. Vintage is trendy and beautiful, recycling old beauties is also very popular and trendy, so be sure to buy safely and label your designs accordingly. It's more important to run your business with honesty and integrity than to make a sell. Enjoy creating! |
